When you visit a user's gallery page, the breadcrumbs at the top say "Home › User account › User › %1 Gallery" and the link in the last breadcrumb has "$arg" where it should have the user name.

Yu're perfectly right, this issue is well known.
I googled around but i couldn't find useful tips.
That php argument works with the page name, and you see "orac gallery" for example, but it's not being "translated" in the user name in the breadcrumb.
I'll try to find a solution, if i can't, i'll change the page name to something else, same for all users
